ROOM: Community Room A
DESCRIPTION:Join LTC environmental education staff at the Charlevoix Publi
c Library for an evening in one of northern Michigan's most dramatic
and least understood landscapes. Great Lakes dunes are among the tallest f
reshwater dunes on earth, and the beaches and blowouts of our shoreline ar
e home to a community of plants and animals so specialized that many exist
almost nowhere else. We'll explore how dune systems form and move, a
nd meet some of the rare and remarkable species that depend on them, inclu
ding the Pitcher's thistle, a plant that grows only on Great Lakes sh
ores.
