Wild Wednesdays With Little Traverse Conservancy: Vernal Pools

Primary tabs

Program Description

Event Details

Join LTC environmental education staff at the Charlevoix Public Library for an evening in the world of vernal pools, the shallow, snowmelt-fed wetlands that appear each April in northern Michigan's forests and vanish again before summer. We'll explore the remarkable creatures that time their entire lives around these temporary waters. Together, we'll look at what makes a vernal pool different from other wetlands, why the absence of fish is the key to everything, and how the Michigan Vernal Pool Partnership is working to find, map, and protect these habitats across the state. This all-ages program is designed for anyone curious about what's happening in the quiet, wet corners of our northern Michigan woods each spring.
